City of Clinton Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.

The Clinton Police Department is investigating a head on collision that occurred on December 24th, 2022, around 4:15 on College Street near Graham Street. The Preliminary investigation suggests that a 2014 Dodge Charger crossed the centerline and struck a 2004 Ford Expedition head on.

The driver and occupants of the 2004 Ford Expedition sustained non-life threatening injuries and were treated by EMS. Tony Pastor 25 YOA, Rosio Bonfilio 35 YOA, Enrique Patlan 18 YOA, and two juveniles all of Wildflower Lane, Clinton.

The driver of the 2014 Dodge Charger, Sergio Liriano 34 YOA of Ashelyn Avenue Clinton, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Sampson Regional Medical Center where he was declared deceased. Immediate family has been notified. Passenger of vehicle, Milik Bonaparte 28 YOA Calhoun Street, Clinton sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers believe that alcohol and speed are contributing factors in the crash and the accident remains under investigation.
