CITY OF GOLDSBORO: Annual Switch To A Free Chlorine System May 4
0Comments

City of Goldsboro issued the following announcement on Apr. 26.

The City of Goldsboro Public Works Department will begin its annual switch to a free chlorine system May 4. The unidirectional water line flushing program will follow, beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday, May 8. Crews will flush lines from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily except Fridays and Saturdays. The flushing program should last approximately five weeks (through June 12, 2022) unless we experience inclement weather or extremely cold temperatures.

The annual water line flushing program is a process for maintaining the distribution system. During this process, unidirectional flushing reverses the flow of water in the distribution pipe at a high velocity, removing accumulated sediment. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality recommends that all public water systems using chloramine disinfection switch to free chlorine once a year during water distribution system flushing. This is a standard, routine process for water distribution systems throughout the country.

Residents may experience some discolored water during this process. If residents experience discolored water, they should run their cold water for a short period to clear any discolored water in their plumbing. If this does not resolve the problem, or if residents have any other questions or concerns, they should contact the Public Works Department at (919) 734-8674 during regular business hours (7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 – 11 a.m. on Fridays).

We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as we perform this important project.
