City of Kinston issued the following announcement on Nov. 2.
The Ellis Planetarium is currently looking for a Center Assistant!
This is an hourly position paying $8.50.
Under general direction of the Center Director, assists with routine care of animals, maintenance and housekeeping of the Neuseway Nature Park and of the Campground.
Essential Functions
- Opens, closes and supervises the meeting room during room rentals.
- Assists in the feeding and general care of the animals.
- Cleans cages, floors, aquariums and other items as needed.
- Assists in the general housekeeping duties of the buildings and grounds including restroom facilities.
- Gives presentations to groups.
- Assists with taking fees for campground sites.
- Knows and understands ALL emergency procedures associated with Nature Park and with the Training Room.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be good with the public, speaking to groups and children.
- Must be comfortable working with animals.
- Must demonstrate good judgment and sound decision making skills in emergency situations.
- Must be willing to work on some weekends, holidays, nights and have a flexible schedule.
Physical Demands
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 30 pounds of force; ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Work includes speaking or hearing, frequently standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. recreation center; pool area; visitor center; day trip facilities).
