We are hiring! 

Description

Under general direction of the Center Director, assists with general upkeep, gift shop transactions, groups, events, and operating our kiddie train.

 Essential Functions

  • Opens, closes, and supervises visitors to our center.
  • Shows a sense of initiative and responsibility, being able to manage the public under pressure.
  • Able to work with basic computer operating systems and various forms of technology.
  • Assists in the general housekeeping duties of the buildings and grounds, including restroom facilities.
  • Gives public presentations to groups based on astronomy.
  • Able to operate the miniature train for visitors.
  • Knows and understands ALL emergency procedures associated with Planetarium and its outside properties.
  • Performs related tasks as required and fulfills required expectations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be good with the public, speaking to groups and children.
  • Must demonstrate good judgment and sound decision making skills in emergency situations.
  • Must be willing to work on some weekends, holidays, nights and have a flexible schedule.
  • Must be able to handle money responsibly and accurately.
  • Must have a an understanding of technology.

Physical Demands

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to  30 pounds of force;  ability to lift up to 30 pounds.  Work includes speaking or hearing, frequently standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. recreation center; pool area; visitor center; day trip facilities).
