Clinton Fire Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 28.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the White Cross Fire Department and Durham Fire Department as they deal with the loss of one of their personnel David “Scotty”Merritt. Scotty passed away this afternoon after his courageous battle against cancer. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
