County of Duplin issued the following announcement on Feb. 28.

Duplin County Sheriff’s Office have been receiving complaints in reference to calls from scammers claiming that you have an outstanding warrant, order for arrest, or that you missed jury duty.

The scammers claim in order to handle those outstanding warrants/orders for arrest, you need to go buy a prepaid card from a local retail establishment.

It is NOT the policy of Duplin County Sheriff’s Office and other government agencies to ask for payments in order to resolve criminal matters.

No Duplin County Sheriff’s Deputy will call you and ask for money to resolve a warrant, order for arrest, or missing jury duty.

If you receive a call in reference to this, please hang up and call the FTC at 1-877-382-4357 and report the matter.
