County of Wayne issued the following announcement on June 3.

The Wayne County Animal Shelter is counting down to Independence Day with an adoption event that waives adoption fees for dogs and cats who have been in the shelter for 30 days or more. This event runs now through July 8, 2022. Residents can view available animals online at www.waynegov.com/pets. Visiting the animals at the shelter is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call (919) 731-1439 ext. 0 or email the shelter at animals@waynegov.com.

“We have some great dogs and cats of all ages and sizes that are in need of a forever home,” said Graham Price, animal services director. “This event was created in order to help get animals adopted by waiving the adoption fee for animals that have been at the shelter for 30 days or longer. If you have room in your household for a dog or cat please consider adopting and contacting the shelter.”

All animals that leave the shelter are spayed, neutered, and vaccinated. This adoption event only applies to pets at the shelter, not for cats located at PetSmart locations. Other dogs and cats that are new to the shelter are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $65.00.
