County of Wayne issued the following announcement on May 4.

Applications for Golden LEAF Community-Based Grants are now open in Wayne County for 501(c)(3) organizations and local governmental entities. A total of $1.5 million is available to three projects in Wayne County that address job creation and economic investment, agriculture, and workforce preparedness. Applications are due to the County Manager by May 27, 2022 for selection and recommendation to the Golden LEAF Foundation.

The Golden LEAF Community-Based Grants Initiative (CBGI) is designed to identify projects with the potential to have a significant impact in the Southeast Prosperity Zone. The counties in the Southeast Prosperity Zone are Brunswick, Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, and Wayne. It is a focused process with grants targeted toward investments in the building blocks of economic growth.

“We encourage our non-profit community, municipalities, community college, and university to think of projects that could benefit from this grant funding,” said County Manager Craig Honeycutt. “This initiative targets important needs for Wayne County, and we look forward to positive results coming from this funding.”
