County of Wayne issued the following announcement on Dec. 15.

Wayne County has been awarded $750,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the Neighborhood Revitalization Program. Commissioner Antonio Williams made a motion to apply for the grant during the October 5, 2021 meeting of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners after hearing of problems in the Dudley area. CDBG Neighborhood Revitalization funds are administered by the North Carolina Department of Commerce and allow the county to tailor a project to meet community development needs for low- and moderate-income residents.

“This is great news for the Rollingwood Community,” said Commissioner Antonio Williams. “This has been an effort a long time in the making, and I could not be more excited for them. It is so great to see it has finally come together. Thank you to Assistant County Manager Chip Crumpler and David Harris for working on this grant, as well as CDBG Section Chief Valerie Fegans. This is a win for Dudley and a team effort between local government and our citizens like Mrs. Debra Graham and others.”

This grant money will be used for housing assistance, including rehabilitation, clearance, and reconstruction, as well as storm drainage improvements, including piping and ditching in the Rollingwood Community.
