FOIA Request to Wayne County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
We at EC North Carolina News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have formally requested records under the North Carolina Public Records Law from the Wayne County Election Department. The request was made on February 5, 2025.
Our request specifically asked for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We requested detailed information about each candidate including their first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and party affiliation.
In addition to this basic information about each candidate’s candidacy, we also asked for all available contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
The response from the Wayne County Election Department is eagerly awaited as it will provide valuable insight into the upcoming elections and help us keep our readers informed about their choices in the polls.
