A large amount of House Republicans are torn by New Mexico’s gun carrying ban, which they argue goes against the Second Amendment. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has implemented unlawful regulations that interfere with the constitutional right to bear arms of law-abiding citizens, according to Rep. Richard Hudson. In response to the governor’s actions, Hudson tweeted, “I am proud to stand with my @HouseGOP colleagues to condemn these actions and protect #2A rights.”

The issue of New Mexico’s gun carrying ban has sparked debate from both sides. Numerous members of the GOP are outraged by the decision, while a few Democrats within and outside the state have also voiced their concerns. Gov. Grisham’s move has effectively paused the rights granted by the Second Amendment.

The ban was implemented through an emergency public health order that prohibits gun carry in Albuquerque and surrounding areas. Violators can face fines of up to $5,000. Rep. Dan Newhouse from Washington attributes this situation to poor supervision of Congress and the Constitution. He believes that it strips away America’s protection and rights.

Currently, the concealed carry is only suspended. Fox News also reported on Newhouse’s comments, which Rep. Hudson expressed his agreement with in his tweet. However, more than 50 Republicans are supporting Newhouse’s stance against Gov. Grisham. Fox News also highlighted the baseless nature of Grisham’s decision in relation to the Constitution, pointing out that there are no laws that support it.
