Kinston Police Department issued the following announcement on Apr. 28.

Come join us at Grainger Stadium on Saturday, May 21st at 5pm for the Battle of the Badges.   

The Battle of the Badges is a Softball Game between the Police Department and Fire Department that benefits the winning department’s choice of charity or project.  The Police Department is choosing to donate all proceeds to the Jonathan Manning fundraiser.  Jonathan has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  

Jonathan is an incredible husband, father and friend. Jonathan has dedicated the majority of his life serving the public with 16 years as a volunteer and professional firefighter. Jonathan worked for the Kinston Fire Department for 5 years and the Kinston Police Department for 6 years.  Jonathan was an outstanding police officer who excelled in proactive street level drug, gun and gang interdiction/suppression.  Jonathan was a valuable member of the department’s SWAT Team and assigned to the Narcotics Unit.  Jonathan ultimately served as a Task Force Officer with the United States Marshal Service Violent Fugitive Task Force.  Gates open at 4, and the 7 inning game starts at 5pm.
