Kinston Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 1

On December 29, 2021, at approximately 10:09 pm, KPD officers performed a vehicle stop on the 1500 block of Charlotte Avenue and located (2) firearms inside the vehicle.  One of the firearms was stolen out of Greensboro, North Carolina.  The 19 year old occupant in the vehicle was charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm.  Unfortunately, this is the 4th time this individual has been charged with illegally possessing a firearm in the past year.  By making this arrest, our officers may have prevented a more serious crime from taking place.  We are extremely thankful our officers continue to safeguard lives and property in our community.

We place the highest priority on investigating crimes of violence perpetrated in our city. We will investigate such cases with no compromise for crime, and continue to seek assistance from the community we proudly serve.  If anyone has information about illegal activities within our City, please call the Kinston Police Department’s Tips Line at 252-939-4020 or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 252-523-4444.  Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous, and the caller may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
