A student meal-distribution program that was halted because of COVID-19 fears resumed on Monday.

Duplin County School leaders initially stoped the program on March 30 when it closed facilities in response to fears of spreading COVID-19.

However, the school district reversed course, according to a Facebook post from the Dublin County Government, stating that the meal-distribution program will continue with help from local organizations.

“The Board of Education's ongoing commitment to feed our students remains steadfast and we appreciate our long-standing partnership with Duplin County Government,” the announcement said. “In addition, the Charity Rebuild Center and our Faith-Based Community has come through at a very critical time. Plans are underway to resume meal distribution for our students next week.”

Duplin County Schools announced April 3 on the county government Facebook page that the student meals will be distributed through Thursday, April 9. In observance of Good Friday, the program will be closed, and resuming Monday, April 13.

The meals may be picked up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Beulaville Elementary at 138 Lyman Road in Beulaville; B.F. Grady Elementary, 2627 North NC 11 and 903 in Albertson; North Duplin Elementary, 157 N. Duplin School Road, Mt. Olive; Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary, 1329 Brooks Quinn Road, Rose Hill; Wallace Elementary, 4266 S. NC Hwy 11, Wallace; and Warsaw Elementary, 158 Lanefield Road, Warsaw.
