The North Carolina House of Representative's COVID-19 committee approved $75 million that will go toward the Golden LEAF Bridge Loan Program, Rep. Chris Humphrey (R-Lenoir) posted to his Facebook page in late April.
"With unanimous support, the NC House’s #COVIDー19 Economic Support Working Group approved bipartisan legislation to infuse $75 million into the Golden LEAF Bridge Loan Program," he said in the post.
The Golden LEAF Bridge Loan Program provides support to small businesses in North Carolina, Humphrey said in the Facebook post. While these businesses are waiting for federal aid, the LEAF program will help them "keep the lights on," he said on Facebook.
"It's not ideal, but will help hold many over until they can get back on their feet," Humphrey said on Facebook. "This money could be the difference between filing bankruptcy and staying open."
Some North Carolinians responded to the approval with positive comments.
"It's good to provide possible options," North Carolina resident Sandra Matza said on Facebook. " American spirit ingenuity and changes in response to future planning will open new avenues for [an] economic turnaround. Ensuring we have enough people alive to work these future ideals is imperative."
