The Wayne County Board of Commissioners recently selected Freeman Hardison, Jr., to fill a vacant commissioner's seat.
Hardison was unanimously selected after Commissioner A. Joe Gurley III passed away in May, the Wayne County government said on its official Facebook page earlier this month. He will serve out the remainder of the late commissioner's term.
Hardison was sworn in during the regular Board of Commissioners meeting on July 21.
"Hardison grew up outside of Newton Grove, North Carolina, and attended NC A&T University. After college, Freeman spent 29 years working in various laboratory leadership roles," the county’s Facebook page announced.
Hardison retired to Grantham, North Carolina, in 2013, but has kept busy by serving as a member of several local boards. He has worked on the Wayne County Planning Board, the Wayne Action Teams for Community Health, the Wayne County NC Extension Master Gardeners, the Wayne UNC Health Care Board of Directors, and the Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority.
