A segment of N.C. 148 temporarily closed for construction workers to continue the C.F. Harvey Parkway construction project.
The part of the road is in Lenoir County, east of Aerosystems Boulevard and the intersection to N.C. 58. The avenue was closed from Sept. 28 until Oct. 5, WNCT 9 reported in September. The closure was scheduled so that contractors could work on new alignment tie-ins.
Drivers had to use Airport Road, Academy Heights Road and N.C. 58 as alternatives to N.C. 148, WNCT 9 reported.
The project to extend C.F. Harvey Parkway by nearly 6 miles was started with the purpose of improving access in northern Kinston to several highways, including U.S. 70, N.C. 58 and N.C. 11, according to the news media.
The project costs an estimated $73.5 million and should be mostly finished by the end of the year, WNCT 9 reported.
