Gov. Roy Cooper said that a coding initiative, an auto repair and tire shop, and four individual North Carolinians earned NCWorks Awards of Distinction.
One of those individuals is Yadira Paz-Martinez of Clinton. Paz-Martinez comes from a long line of farmworkers, a release from the governor's office said. Paz-Martinez registered in the National Farmworker Jobs Program back in 2019.
She is presently a senior at Union High School in Rose Hill where she attends a program spearheaded by the Sampson Community College, the release stated. She participates in various extracurricular activities, including the Student Government Association, Key Club, Beta Club, Rotary Youth Leadership, and the Migrant Education program.
"These award winners are focused on getting North Carolina job-ready, connecting workers to the skills they need as well as employers who need those workers," Cooper said in the release. "Each of these honorees stands out for their contributions to develop our state's workforce and has a big role in helping our state recover from the economic challenges that we face."
