Democratic House Candidate Donna Lake has lost her bid for Senate District 7 to Republican incumbent Jim Perry.
Lake posted the following statement on her Facebook page on Nov. 4.
“Last night, I called Senator Jim Perry and conceded the race for NC Senate District 7. It's easy to look at the raw vote totals and feel discouraged, but the picture is so much bigger than that. Though we were unsuccessful in flipping this seat (this time), our campaign gave Democrats in Wayne and Lenoir an opportunity to get excited and to have skin in the game.
“We saw young people mobilized to learn more about state and local leaders and the role that "down ballot" elected officials play in shaping the community we want to see.
“We wrote letters, made phone calls, handed out literature, hosted virtual events, listened to the community, raised record amounts of money, and had thousands of conversations with voters about the issues that matter to them in our attempt to flip this seat.
“I want to sincerely thank you for all of the time, money, and energy you invested into this movement. And I want you to know that I've meant it every time I've said it - I'm not going anywhere. I will continue to advocate for the Medicaid expansion, stronger public schools, higher minimum wage, affordable housing, and updated infrastructure which will make our communities stronger.
“I am, as always, humbled by the support you've shown me in the last year and a half, and I hope that you will join me in staying engaged with the issues and holding our elected leaders accountable.”
