KINSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT: Recognize New Generation of Officers Recently Completed Crisis Intervention Team Training On March 4, 2022

Policespeak

Kinston Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 8.

The Kinston Police Department would like to recognize the new generation of officers who recently completed Crisis Intervention Team Training on Friday, March 4, 2022.  Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training is the course of instruction associated with the National CIT approach to responding to people with mental illness. The CIT training course requires an extensive 40-hour curriculum taught over five consecutive days. The course emphasizes understanding of mental illness and incorporates the development of communication skills, practical experience and role-playing.

These officers are better trained, better equipped and more prepared than ever before to respond to crisis situations. KPD would like to thank Eastpointe and Lenoir Community College for being valuable community partners and helping make our community safer for everyone.  Over 85% of our sworn officers have completed CIT.  We already have another CIT class scheduled for August 2022.
