County of Wayne issued the following announcement on May 6.
The Wayne County Summer Youth Employment Program is open for applications for the summer of 2022! This exciting program opens paid work opportunities for high school and college students to learn valuable skills in local government, financial literacy, and workplace training. The deadline to apply is May 20, 2022, and work will begin on June 20, 2022.
“We are excited to launch this program over the summer,” said Chairman Joe Daughtery. “Not only will these young adults receive a job over the summer, but they will also be learning valuable life skills working alongside our staff. County government has positions for everyone, and we hope these work experiences will lead to more individuals considering a career in local government.”
The Summer Youth Employment Program started as a recommendation from Commissioner Antonio Williams during the Board of Commissioners’ goals retreat earlier this year. Participants will work across the County in different departments from June 20, 2022, until July 29, 2022.
“Summer employment is very valuable,” said Commissioner Williams. “As a kid, I had the opportunity to work cutting grass, raking yards, running groceries. All this work helped me tremendously at an early age. The County wants to give kids the opportunity to have a better life. We want to allow them to grow here at home during this program.”
