COUNTY OF WAYNE: Chip Crumpler Selected as Wayne County Manager

Boardlead

County of Wayne issued the following announcement on June 16.

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Assistant County Manager Chip Crumpler to the county manager position after Craig Honeycutt’s departure at the end of the month. Crumpler will begin at midnight on June 30, 2022 and his annual salary will be $177,500. The Board began the search for a county manager after Honeycutt announced his resignation last month.

“Chip knows Wayne County,” said Chairman Joe Daughtery. “He was born and raised here. He knows our communities and knows what challenges they face. While we are excited for Chip to move up, we will certainly miss Craig. We appreciate his service to Wayne County and wish him the best in his new role with the City of Burlington.”

Crumpler was born in Goldsboro, attended Goldsboro High School, and graduated from East Carolina University. He began working for Wayne County in the Planning Department on June 1, 2000. He was later promoted to planning director and was named assistant county manager in February 2018.

“I would like to thank the Board for having the confidence in me to be in this leadership role for a county that I was born and raised in and that I care so much about,” said Crumpler. “To be able to serve the Board of County Commissioners and the citizens is a role I don’t take lightly. Having great employees, supervisors, and department managers makes taking a job like this an easy decision. I can’t thank the employees enough for the work they perform daily. The level of knowledge, professionalism, and care that our employees possess and display is astounding. I am extremely proud to be associated with such a great group.”
