CITY OF GOLDSBORO: City Council Public Hearing on July 11, 2022

Publichearing

City of Goldsboro issued the following announcement on June 27.

The Goldsboro City Council will conduct a public hearing in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 214 North Center Street, at 7:00 p. m., on July 11, 2022.  The public hearing will be held for the purpose of receiving citizen comments on a proposal to amend the boundaries of the six (6) existing electoral districts.

Under the existing system, the City is divided into six (6) single-member districts and one Councilmember is elected from each of these districts.  The voters of each district elect one Councilmember who resides in their districts. All of the qualified voters of the City elect the Mayor at-large.

Boundaries for the City of Goldsboro’s six current Electoral Districts were last revised and amended in 2011 to more accurately balance population changes experienced because of the 2010 Census. With new data becoming available based on the 2020 Census, there is now a significant population imbalance within the City’s current Electoral Districts which may affect equal representation for its citizens and the one person, one vote principle guaranteed in the United States Constitution. The City of Goldsboro contracted with Poyner Spruill, LLP to analyze the current 2020 Census data and prepare revised Electoral District boundaries and maps to correct population imbalances.

The proposed amended electoral district boundaries may be examined in detail by accessing the City of Goldsboro’s website at www.goldsboronc.gov. Comments or appointments regarding this matter may be submitted by telephone at (919)580-4335 or via email at ktalton@goldsboronc.gov

All interested persons are invited to attend this public hearing and to be heard.  If you plan to attend and require an interpreter, please contact the City Manager’s office at least four (4) days prior to the meeting by calling (919) 580-4330.
