Senator Tillis has emerged as a key advocate for secure borders and a merit-based immigration system, according to a report on his official Senate website. His active involvement seeks to address the longstanding impasse between both Republicans and Democrats on this vital issue.

Facing the urgent challenges at the border, Tillis introduced the Solving the Border Crisis Act. According to his Senate website, this bill presents several significant measures that comprehensively address the situation. It recommends an immediate resumption of border wall construction and advocates for making the Remain in Mexico program permanent. The act also objects to a rule from Biden's administration that empowers asylum officers instead of immigration judges to decide on asylum claims.

As reported by Tillis's Senate site, the bill urges Congress to prompt President Biden to declare a national security emergency at the southern border. To fortify immigration enforcement as well as bolster field operation agents and border patrol, it suggests establishing minimum staffing levels. The legislation stresses providing ample funds for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) so it can maintain adequate detention facilities necessary for operations.
