FOIA Request to Duplin County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at EC North Carolina News have sent a request for records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. The request was made with the aim of obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The information requested includes the candidates' first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation of the candidate; and contact information including address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We look forward to receiving this information from Duplin County Election Department as it will significantly aid in our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of the upcoming elections.
