Wayne County Public Schools issued the following announcement on Feb. 23.
Due to a scheduling conflict, the Wayne School of Technical Arts Information Night scheduled for tomorrow night has been postponed to Monday, February 28, at 6 PM, in the Charles B. Aycock High cafeteria. C.B. Aycock High is hosting the 1st Round NCHSAA 3A State Playoffs on Tuesday evening.
This month, the Wayne County Public Schools lottery application period for three innovative schools began. Beginning next week, information nights for the new Wayne School of Technical Arts will be held for interested parents and rising sixth grade, ninth grade, and tenth grade students – the three grade levels being offered in its first year. The schedule is as follows.
- Tuesday, February 15 at 6 PM in the Meadow Lane Elementary cafeteria
- Monday, February 28 at 6 PM in the Charles B. Aycock High cafeteria
- Thursday, February 24 at 6 PM in the Southern Wayne High cafeteria
A virtual lunch and learn session will be held at 12 PM on Monday, February 21. Interested parents and students can watch the session live on the school’s website, www.waynecountyschools.org/wayneschooltechnicalarts.aspx.. Parents will also be able to post questions for a live Q&A on a special Padlet that will also appear that morning.
Opening in Fall 2022, Wayne School of Technical Arts will offer students a STEM-themed education, with both technical course offerings and advanced placement courses. In addition to core curriculum classes, students will have the opportunity to earn the AP Capstone Diploma Endorsement and/or the opportunity to earn industry credentials in a technical arts field of study. The school will be located on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and will be open to both military connected and non-military connected students.
Wayne Early/Middle College High will hold two information nights for parents and rising freshmen. The schedule is as follows:
- Thursday, February 17, at 6 PM in the Wayne Community College Moffatt Auditorium
- Tuesday, March 1, at 6 PM in the Wayne Community College Moffatt Auditorium
Opened in 2006, Wayne Early/Middle College High School is an innovative school consisting of grades 9-13. Located on the campus of Wayne Community College, students have the opportunity to complete their North Carolina high school graduation requirements and a two-year Associate Degree or two years of college transfer courses in a 4-5 year period. Students do not pay for tuition or purchase college textbooks. Students are dually enrolled in high school and college courses. All high school courses are offered at the honors level.
Wayne School of Engineering will offer individual tours or provide information for interested parents and rising 6th grade students. They simply need to contact the school at 919-734-0070.
Opened in 2007, Wayne School of Engineering is an innovative school consisting of grades 6-13. Students are provided an honors curriculum with an emphasis on collaboration. In conjunction with high school courses, students are provided the opportunity to obtain a two-year associates degree from Wayne Community College.
The application deadline for the three schools is Friday, March 18, at 5 PM. Applications are available at www.waynecountyschools.org/InnovativeHighSchools.aspx.
